Introduction

The Finnish Psycho-Analytical Society (Suomen psykoanalyyttinen yhdistys ry) is a community of members and training. Its members are medical doctors or psychologists who have a psychoanalytical training.

The Finnish Psycho-Analytical Society is a member of The International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA). The psychoanalytical training is approved by The National Authority for Medicolegal Affairs in Finland (TEO) and the psychoanalysts are in its register of Healthcare Professionals of advanced psychotherapy training. The National Authority of Medicolegal Affairs also controls the psychoanalysts’ work.

The Finnish Psycho-Analytical Society has 208 members, most of whom practice in the Helsinki region but there are also psychoanalysts for instance in Turku, Tampere, Oulu, Kuopio, Jyväskylä, Lahti, Joensuu and Porvoo.

In addition to treating patients in psychoanalysis or psychotherapy the members supervise clinical cases. Many members also do research work, lecture and teach in other psychotherapeutic training organizations.
